Fall Sonnet

Oh Fall, your stay is much too short

But while you’re here you gladden my heart

Your fading colors will always be

Bright reds and oranges inside of me

The crisp tartness of each apple bite

Tingles my thirsting tongue’s delight

Each whirling dry leaf is there for me

To kick and crunch and just to see

Chrysanthemums and pumpkins bright

They shout to me, the time is right to

To soak up your colors and the sun

Before winter starts its interminable run.

Oh, Fall, I love your unpredictable ways

Of windy, hazy or sun-filled days.
